Last Saturday, we had the absolute pleasure of capturing Evan & Melissa’s summer wedding at Holy Child Parish. Their winter engagement session had already shown us the depth of their love and joy, and their wedding day only further confirmed it.
We love catching up with past wedding party members, which made this wedding extra fun. Spencer had been in a wedding we shot 3 years ago (Taylor & Jolene – Emerald Park Wedding 2021) and was actually the glowing review to Evan & Melissa that connected us in the first place – which means a lot coming from a groomsman!
The day unfolded beautifully, reflecting their deep connection and the meticulous planning that went into every detail. Melissa felt a mix of nerves and excitement as she prepared, her heart racing with anticipation for the day ahead. Evan, in contrast, remained calm and collected, his steady demeanour providing a comforting presence. This contrast highlighted the beautiful balance in their relationship, a theme evident throughout the day.
As much as we love the traditional approach to wedding days, there is always something so very special, peaceful and intimate about a wedding day first look. These times allow the couple to spend their first moments together in a private setting, where they can be emotional, embrace, talk to each other, and let the reality of the day sweep over them with much fewer onlookers.
Evan & Melissa’s first look was surreal for both of them. For Melissa, seeing Evan waiting for her, looking incredibly dashing in his suit, made the reality of the day sink in— it was really happening, she was getting married! Evan’s reaction was equally heartfelt; seeing Melissa for the first time in her wedding dress took his breath away, in a moment that marked the beginning of their forever.
As the ceremony time approached at Holy Child Parish, Melissa felt a wave of nerves, briefly worried about tripping as she approached the altar, but that quickly dissipated as she met the gaze of her very-soon-to-be husband standing at the altar waiting for her. Evan’s heart swelled with happiness, knowing that all the months of planning had led to this moment. The ceremony was a beautiful blend of emotions, from the tender exchange of vows, to the special readings by those close to them, to the joy of being pronounced husband and wife.
The day was filled with unforgettable memories – a standout was their ring bearer proudly carrying the rings to the priest, looking like he had completed a top-secret mission with his “Ring Security” briefcase. Another highlight was dancing with their guests, a celebration of love and joy on the dance floor.
The choice of venue was important to them as this is the parish that Evan & Melissa attend, where Evan’s mom works, and where Evan’s parent had gotten married 35 years earlier!
Evan & Melissa’s advice to newly engaged couples is simple but profound: embrace the engagement period and take your time with planning. They emphasized the importance of making decisions that reflect your desires and not succumbing to external pressures. Stressing over minor details isn’t worth it; what matters most is the love you share and the commitment you are making to each other!
Evan & Melissa, we wish you all the happiness in the world as you embark on this new chapter together. Your wedding day was a beautiful celebration of your love, and we are so honoured to have captured these precious memories. Here’s to the beginning of your next adventure, cherished moments, and a lifetime rich in blessings!
xoxo,
Cam & Courtney
