We love having the opportunity to photograph Scott & Ashley year after year. There is a sense of anticipation and excitement whenever we get the chance to catch up. This annual tradition is one of the highlights of our photography season. It gives us a chance not just to capture beautiful images, but to reconnect with two people who feel more like friends than clients.
This year’s session was a little different. Knowing it would be our last session with them made it feel both sweet and also sentimental. It only felt right to circle back to where so much of their story began, the park near the Wascana Marina by barWillow. It was here that we photographed their engagement and wedding portraits many years ago. There’s something beautifully poetic about ending where we started, especially with a couple whose journey we’ve had the honour of documenting from “yes,” to “I do,” and every season since.
The day itself carried that unmistakable chill that comes with October in Saskatchewan. After having such an unseasonably warm September, we all knew it was only a matter of time before the weather shifted. The breeze off the lake had a bite to it, and we all found ourselves tucking our hands into pockets or wrapping ourselves a little tighter between shots. But if you know Scott & Ashley, you know that a little cold doesn’t bother them. They laughed, teased, and leaned into one another the way they always do — effortlessly, warmly, and with that quiet joy that follows them everywhere.
There’s something about watching these two together that never gets old. Over the years, we’ve seen them through countless small moments — the tender gestures, the unspoken glances, the bursts of laughter that always seem to happen right when we lift the camera. Their love has always felt grounded, not flashy or posed, but a real, authentic and steady kind of love. Even as the wind tugged at Ashley’s hair and sent ripples across the water, there was a stillness between them, the kind that comes from years of leaning in and choosing each other again and again.
And to top it off, Scott & Ashley are also some of the most caring people you could ever meet. They are always so intentional to ask us about our lives and how we are doing. Not merely small talk, but true, deep, empathetic conversation. We so appreciate having people like this in our lives.
We took a quiet walk down by the docks, pausing where the sunlight broke through the clouds and shimmered across the lake. The trees nearby were still holding on to some of their leaves, the last of autumn’s colour clinging on for just a few more days.
They spoke softly to each other, shared smiles that spoke of a thousand shared memories, and wrapped up in each other’s arms against the cool breeze. There was such peace in watching them together — like the world had slowed down just long enough for us to capture another glimpse of their story.
When we first met them, we never could’ve imagined how much a couple could come to mean to us over the years. What began as a wedding inquiry turned into a friendship built through seasons of life and love. It is so encouraging to hear stories like theirs, where from the moment they left our initial consult, they knew they wanted us to photograph their wedding. They are some of our biggest cheerleaders and supporters. Scott & Ashley, like so many others, have been a constant reminder of why we do what we do: to tell stories that last, to celebrate love that endures, and to freeze fleeting moments in time before they slip quietly into memory.
As we wrapped up this final session, we knew it was going to be tough to say goodbye. With each session we get closer to closing this chapter, and these goodbyes get harder and harder. As tear filleds our eyes we hugged, laughed, reminisced as we said goodbye. These are some very special people, and for anyone that has them in their life, you should count yourselves blessed.
Scott & Ashley, thank you for the years of trust, laughter, and warmth you’ve shared with us. Photographing your love story since 2018 has been a great privilege. We believe strongly in a marriage and a deep lasting love, and you both are prime examples of that. Continue to love hard and be intentional with one another. Celebrating together. Laughing together. Crying together. Supporting one another.
Thank you for being part of our story, too — for every smile, every conversation, every shared moment behind and in front of the camera. We’ll always carry these memories with us, and we’ll be cheering you on.
xoxo
