The enchanting engagement session of Dustin & Kristyn was as magical as it was heartwarming. Their journey together is a beautiful blend of engineered precision, heartfelt care, Harry Potter fandom, and a shared love of life’s simple pleasures.

Dustin, an industrial engineer working on his master’s degree, and Kristyn, an ICU nurse, are a match made in heaven. Their paths initially crossed online in 2019, when Dustin was drawn to Kristyn’s profile. He loved her photos, and that Kristyn had shared that she loved classical music.

Dustin, who was new to the online dating thing, was a little uncertain. He was mainly concerned about potentially being cat-fished by some “weirdo”. But the fact that Kristyn listed on her profile that she played music, and specifically said that she played the oboe put him at ease. After that, Dustin was convinced that she had to be a real person. Because he thought, ‘If anyone was ever going to lie about playing an instrument, who would choose the oboe?!’

On their first date, Dustin & Kristyn met at Starbucks. From the beginning, the conversation flowed easily, and there was an instant connection. Kristyn was drawn to the insightful questions that Dustin asked, and how he listened to her so intently. Not only that he listened, but he also remembered things she had told him in their previous online conversations. They couldn’t believe how much time had passed when the Starbucks staff told them they had to go, they were closing! They bonded over their shared love of music, and most importantly, Harry Potter!

With the pandemic looming shortly after they got together in 2019, there wasn’t much opportunity for them to get out and travel as they would have liked. Last summer, they did a lot of travelling around Canada, and with each trip they took, Kristyn found herself wondering if this would be it- would this be when he would propose?!

After each trip, Kristyn still found herself ringless. But, on Boxing Day, Dustin decided they should book a ‘spontaneous, last minute trip’ to Cancun for the end of January 2024. Now, if you’ve ever met an engineer, you know that they are not the ‘spontaneous’ type… Like Dustin, a vast majority of engineers must be Ravenclaws… He had been doing his research and planning this for a while!

Dustin & Kristyn travelled to Cancun in January 2024. They stayed at a beautiful resort, soaking up all the sun, great food, and laughter, making so many memories. And another was just around the corner. On the balcony of their room, with the sounds of the waves lapping in the background, Dustin got down on one knee and professed his love to his favourite Hufflepuff, asking her to be his wife. To which Kristyn gave a resounding, “YES!”

Their engagement session at Wascana Trails was nothing short of perfection. The evening was so calm, the weather taking a break from the rain and crazy wind we had been experiencing – that alone is always a welcome change in Saskatchewan! Dustin & Kristyn’s playful and loving nature shone through every moment, including Dustin’s Darth Vader impression, which he attempted to showcase for us. However, it isn’t the ‘traditional’ version you might expect… We were told that it comes out with a British inflection, and the anticipation kept them laughing so hard that we didn’t get to hear it!

As we wandered the scenic paths of Wascana Trails, their giggles filled the evening air, setting the perfect tone. Their natural giggling and infectious laughter made every moment delightful.

Dustin & Kristyn trusted us completely, following our lead wherever we took them. Their enthusiasm for the session was evident from the first click of our shutter. They greeted us with beaming smiles and laid-back personalities, exuding love and willingness to try anything!

Dustin & Kristyn’s engagement session was a perfect reflection of their relationship. It was full of laughter, love, and a touch of magic. We are honoured to be part of their journey and can’t wait to capture the special moments of their wedding day in just a few short months at the Wascana Golf Course. Their story is a beautiful reminder of how love can bring two people together from entirely different walks of life, with the unlikeliest of all first impressions: the oboe.
