Meet Ben and Kaitlyn! They are high school sweethearts who have been together for almost 9 years. And now- they are engaged! I am a sucker for a good proposal story, and this one has me beaming!

 

This summer, Ben and Kaitlyn went on a three week trip to Southeast Asia. The first two weeks they travelled with friends and the last alone. Ben and Kaitlyn started their last week in paradise with a romantic dinner on the island of Koh Samui, Thailand. Not sure they’d adventure back to this magical place, they decided to go ‘all out’ for a special night. They booked a private dinner with a secluded beach hut, a personal server, bartender, on an empty beach. Doesn’t that sound like perfection?!

 

The restaurant staff led Ben & Kaitlyn down a flower-laden, candlelit path to a beautiful beach cabana. All of these things were advertised as included with the dinner package, so Kaitlyn was none the wiser. When they arrived at the cabana, Ben asked the server to take pictures of them in front of the cabana. She snapped a few photos, but Ben asked if she would take a couple more, just in case. The server went back to her position and began taking photos. Ben slowly lowered down to one knee and proposed to Kaitlyn.

 

Kaitlyn, of course, said yes! But the next few minutes were a blur. Her only clear thought being, “You’ve been carrying this ring for TWO WEEKS ON THIS TRIP?!” Believe it or not, Ben had actually kept the ring in his CHECKED luggage as they travelled!! I had to ask how could he have enough peace of mind to trust it would arrive at baggage claim?! He laughed as he told us he didn’t want to risk needing to do an impromptu airport security proposal- which totally makes sense! Because they were in Thailand, they couldn’t share their engagement news right away as everyone at home was still sleeping! Ben and Kaitlyn celebrated being ‘secretly’ engaged for 12 hours before anyone else knew!

 

Ben & Kaitlyn, we are so thankful that our paths crossed! You are both such sweet and easygoing people. Spending time with you was like we have known you for years! Cam & I loved getting to know you and hear all about your engagement, new home and wedding plans!
