If you had looked out the window just one day before Darcy & Maddie’s engagement session, you might have guessed this session wouldn’t happen. A late-season snowstorm had swept through Regina, blanketing everything in a fresh (and very uninvited) dusting of white once more. But the next morning? Blue skies, sunshine, and the promise of spring made a full comeback! With the snow completely melted, birds chirping, and the telltale sign of spring- Canada goose honks on the breeze- it was like nothing had happened. A.E. Wilson Park turned out to be the perfect spot to kick off our 2025 season as we captured Darcy & Maddie’s engagement session.
A.E. Wilson was the perfect setting. The early spring light filtered through trees, even as they still appear bare from winter’s grip, small buds starting to emerge. We found little corners of the park that felt like they were just waiting for us. Darcy & Maddie settled into the session quickly, and with every prompt we offered, they leaned into it with warmth and authenticity.
We often say that engagement sessions are a practice run for the wedding day, but it’s also a chance to witness the unique ways couples express love. For Darcy and Maddie, it’s a quiet kind of joy. It’s a held hand, a forehead kiss, a shared smirk and sweet glances.
Now, let’s talk proposal story- because Darcy definitely upped the creativity game. While he had originally planned to propose in February 2024, fate had some other ideas. He placed an order for the ring from Charm in early December, expecting a six-week wait for it to arrive. No problem, he had his plan set, he wasn’t in a rush. BUT just two weeks later, he received a call from the jewelry store, letting him know that the ring had arrived, and it was ready for pick up! After checking in with Maddie’s mom (who wisely suggested that he change his plan and propose earlier, if he wanted it to be a surprise), Darcy’s plans shifted into high gear.
It was New Year’s Eve. Darcy & Maddie had planned to build their new LEGO sets they had received for Christmas- Hogsmeade and the Hogwarts Express sets. Darcy told Maddie that he had a gift for her, and handed her a photo album. But it wasn’t just a walk down memory lane- it was a puzzle. There was a clue, that would correspond to a certain photo in the album. The final clue? One that led Maddie to the ring. It was so thoughtful, intentional, and so perfectly them.
Fast forward to today, in just over six weeks, Darcy & Maddie will be saying “I do.” We couldn’t be more thrilled to walk alongside them in this journey. If their engagement session is any indication, their wedding day will be full of joy, meaningful moments, and probably some slight nods to their shared love of nerdisms. (Which we are ALWAYS here for!!)
Darcy & Maddie, thank you for inviting us to capture your love story. You two are a beautiful example of how love doesn’t need years upon years to grow deep roots. It requires a fertile soil mixture including some ever importatnt nutrients like honesty, shared dreams, and maybe even a sprinkling of a little magic (a la Harry Potter). We cannot wait to celebrate with you on your big day!
xoxo
