There is nothing quite like a beautiful summer evening in Regina. The glow of the setting sun, as birds chirp their song from the treetops. A gentle breeze blowing, and not even many mosquitos! As we made the trek into the Wascana Habitat Conservation Area with the Strachan & McPhee family, we knew it was going to be a good night!
Courtney has known a couple of members of this family for years, having gone to the same high school, and even elementary school! Some others, we had met a couple of years ago at another wedding we photographed. And others, we had the opportunity of meeting for the first time at this session. It didn’t matter how long we had known each person, this family welcomed us in with open arms and were such good sports, even with all our crazy antics!
Extended family sessions are always a little extra unique. There are elements of an immediate family session, but now multiplied. We get to witness the interaction between the grown-up siblings, their own families, grandma and grandpa, and all the individual personalities that are represented.
As most photo sessions begin, there is a little bit of apprehension as many people just don’t know what to expect. And with that, come feelings of awkwardness and/or nervousness. But let me tell you, it took only moments for this family to relax right into things. It helps when families like to laugh and have fun together, and the Strachan & McPhee crew definitely loves to do those two things!
These sessions are not just about creating images, but genuinely freezing a moment in time. No other moment will reflect these exact ages, dynamics, or the relationship exchanges between each of these loved ones. Not every photo is perfectly posed, shot, or sometimes even executed, but what we believe truly matters is making memories and capturing the moments. The photos that allow you to relive the laughter and emotion you were feeling in that frozen moment- are truly special ones.
Strachan & McPhee family, thank you for letting us share in the joy of your family. It was so great to reconnect with you and to meet some of you for the first time. Thank you for being so fun, eager, and easy to work with. It honestly was a true joy for us – and these photos reflect the love and joy that you all have together!
xoxo
Cam & Courtney
