Justin & Jessica first met in 2016. At that time, Justin was living outside of the city, and anyone in the nearby town was already married or dating, so there weren’t many single people nearby. So he decided that he might give online dating a try. Once he saw her profile, Justin immediately felt that Jessica was different. Her profile was actually complete (which was unusual) and she sounded very smart and accomplished. Justin mustered the courage to message her, and knew after talking with her for only two days, that she was ‘the one’.
Not long after they started dating, Justin broke his ankle. But what made it really difficult- it was the ankle on his right leg. He was still living out of town, and his appointments with his specialists were in Regina, but driving himself back and forth wasn’t really an option. So Jessica suggested that they move in together.
Before meeting Justin, Jessica had been happily single and had grown accustomed to having to consider no one’s likes or dislikes but her own. She knew that Justin was ‘the one’ when she not only enjoyed having him around but really wanted him to be in her space. Jessica noticed that she was starting to pick up more items that she knew he would like, and it made her so happy. That was when she knew.
Justin proposed to Jessica in 2017. Justin had been in Saskatoon for work training, where he found and bought THE ring. As he drove home, he realized there was no way that he was going to be able to keep the ring hidden. He called Jessica and told her to pick somewhere to go out for supper. Jessica hadn’t been feeling well and had a rough day at work, so when Justin called she was already in bed. She told him that she didn’t feel like going anywhere. After he kept pushing her to pick somewhere, Jessica finally just blurted out, “OK, Montana’s.”
Justin was thinking something fancier, so he kept insisting, “But ANYWHERE you want! Pick ANYwhere!” Because it was Thursday, Jessica knew it was all-you-could-eat fajita night and she loves fajitas. So she held her ground, sticking with Montana’s.
By the time Justin arrived home and they got to the restaurant, it was 8:00 pm. They closed at 9:00 pm, which left them feeling rushed. After a plate, Jessica regretted ordering the fajitas, but before she could even decide if she wanted more, the server was already approaching with another plate of fajitas. By the time they left, Jessica was so uncomfortably full, after starting the night not feeling her best.
They got outside, and Justin suggested they should go for a walk. Jessica laughed, asking if he was kidding. Justin didn’t often want to go for walks, and after eating the fajitas, she didn’t either! But he was adamant that they needed to go to Lakewood Park for a walk. So after he eventually wore her down, they grabbed a coffee and made their way to the park.
They parked the car and after taking only a few steps from the vehicle, Justin’s hands were in a flurry across all of his pockets, with a look of sheer panic on his face. He excused himself for a moment, returning to the car, and reaching into the centre console. When he found it, Jessica noticed that he looked very relieved. That’s when she knew why he was being so weird- he was proposing!
Justin managed to get only a few more steps from the car before he couldn’t wait any longer. Before Jessica knew it, he was down on one knee, professing his love for her. Aside from a lone jogger (who ran directly past them on the path- even when they saw Justin was already down on one knee) they had the entire park to themselves. Basking in the radiant evening light, they walked and began making plans about what their future together.
Fast forward to this very special day. Where Justin & Jessica revisited that same park, this time to make their wedding vows. With their good friends in attendance as witnesses, it was an intimate display of the love they share.
Justin & Jessica, we are so thankful that we could capture this part of your story. Your love for one another is so evident in the glances you exchange, and even more so in the promises made to one another in your vows. We pray that your love continues to grow and flourish in whatever your future brings next! And that whatever comes next, won’t be as unexpected as that sparkling juice you popped in celebration!
xoxo
